 | We offer a complimentary service to SANCCOB by using one of our vessels to release Coastal Birds offshore. There were about 1.5 million adult African penguins along the southern African coast in the 1930’s. Human activities have reduced this number by a staggering 90% in less than a century. The African penguin is considered vulnerable to extinction and numbers are continuing to decline. |

| We offer largely discounted Boat trips to Grass roots school children in conjunction with Golden Arrow Bus Services The Grassroots Adventure Bus Programme has existed since 1972. Bus drivers from the Tramway & Omnibus Workers Union initiated it, as it was called, who wished to participate in taking children from disadvantages areas on educational outings. Three times a week throughout the year, groups of preschool children from disadvantaged area are taken on educational Adventure Bus and Boat trips, which are aimed at giving them access to the rich resources of Cape Town. These trips give children an opportunity to visit places that they might otherwise never see. They go out on outings to the beach King Cake, the museum, and the forest and to the Waterfront. The visit to the Waterfront Boat Company where the children get to go on a boat ride is the most popular venue. We use the specialty harbour tour vessel Dawn and Southern Cross
Since 1994, approx 31,000 children from over 450 centres have enjoyed these educational outings. The schools are given educational material about the venue that they will visit with activities for before and after the trip, so that the children can gain the most value from these trips.
The volunteer bus drivers give up their free time to drive the children to the outings. Golden Arrow and Grassroots co-ordinates the programmed sponsor the buses and petrol and the cost of the trip. |
