Welcome to GybeSet’s 53rd Newsletter!
It’s been really great to see SA sailors continuing to get some good international competition experience and getting exposure out there in the International arena. Last week we mentioned our juniors, back from the ISAF Youth Worlds and Oppie Worlds, and Taariq Jacobs/Neil Malan and Alex Burger/Alex Lehtinen are back from the 29er Worlds – read Neil’s reports in this newsletter and on the site.
On the big boat side, Mike and Dave Bartholomew on Tokoloshe have been doing really well on the IRC circuit in the UK and are looking forward to a successful Cowes Week where Ian will join them next week. Robbie van Rooyen has just come back from sailing a succesful Cork Week with them and Dave Abromowitz also joined them for a race or two. Will Crockett, Gary Sindler and a few Cape Town sailors also joined Lord Irvine Laidlaw and his crew on RCYC yacht Cape Fling recently in the Med for some top international racing... all great stuff!
The big news, of course is that Asenathi Jim and Roger Hudson are representing SA in the Olympics, and sail their first race is this Thursday! Their journey to the Olympics has certainly captivated the hearts of many South Africans, sailors and non-sailors, who will be with them on every step of their Olympic journey.
We hope to keep you updated of Roger and Asenathi’s progress through Dave Hudson's excellent reports. Please keep an eye on our Facebook Page for updates and soon as we have them. “Like” the page, and you will get the updates on your FB home page!
Good luck, Roger and Asenathi!
Yours in Sailing

Ian and Kirsten
